This is not just a timepiece it is a manifesto of craft. Introduced in 2018, the Altiplano Tourbillon with malachite marquetry dial unites the ultra-thin mastery of the Piaget Altiplano line with the almost lost art of hard-stone marquetry. These pieces were part of an extremely limited edition: only eight examples in malachite (and eight in lapis lazuli) were produced making each dial entirely unique.
The dial is the work of master craftsman Herve Obligi, whose labor-intensive technique involves slicing raw malachite into strips barely 1 mm thick, then reassembling and polishing them into a swirling, living surface. No two dials are the same the subtle striations of green vary with light and angle, creating a Sunny Side of Life effect emblematic of Piagets artistic ambitions.
Housed in a 41 mm rose-gold case just 7.4 mm thick, the manually wound 670P calibre with its flying tourbillon and 48-hour power reserve preserves the Altiplanos legendary slimness while delivering a spectacular complication that hovers lightly on the wrist.
In short: this is a rare convergence of haute horology and decorative artistry a tourbillon, yes, but also a miniature objet dart. Offered in superb condition, this P11485 is among the rarest Altiplano Tourbillons made and one of the most compelling expressions of Piagets dual mastery of movement and material.
